The town of Benicàssim is part of my childhood memories. It truly brings back vivid scenes of summer by the sea with my beloved aunt and uncle, the joyous shouting, the shimmering light, the crashing waves, and the boundless joy of youth. However, those very same memories also encompass the strong allure of the Desert of Las Palmas, that Carmelite center nestled high up in the mountains, from which the entire town and the expansive coastline appeared as merely a distant line on the horizon. For me, the desert was synonymous with silence, a place of rest, gathering strength, nature's embrace, the vast sea, radiant sun, and illuminating light. But above all, it meant encounter. An encounter with Jesus.
