In the depths of the artificial lake lies Fabbriche di Careggine, an entire medieval village submerged in 1946. Stone houses, the Church of San Teodoro, an ancient bridge... it all rests under thirty-four meters of water. And only when the lake is drained for maintenance, about once every twenty to thirty years, does the ghost village re-emerge.
