예수님께서는 두려움 앞에서 잠에 빠진 제자들에게 이런 감정의 표현을 하십니다. "내 마음이 심히 고민하여 죽게 되었다. 그러니 너희는 여기 머물러 나와 함께 깨어 있어라." 이성적으로 그 근심을 제자들이 깨어서 함께 머물러 주기를 청하고 계십니다. 예수님은 하느님이시지만 인간의 자리에서 감정과 두려움을 솔직하게 고백하셨습니다. 그리고 하느님의 뜻을 구하며 기도의 결말을 하느님께 맡기셨죠. 그래서 의지하고 팠던 제자들마저도 결국 눈을 뜨지 않고 잠들어 버렸잖아요.
