As you've seen, spent nuclear fuel continues to accumulate at our country's nuclear power plants. The solution recommended by the International Atomic Energy Agency is a method of permanent isolation 500 meters underground. However, since there are no safe 500-meter disposal sites anywhere in the world yet, extensive real-world research is necessary. To find a way to safely store the high-level radioactive waste accumulated over half a century since our country's first nuclear reactor, Kori Unit 1, in 1978, a research facility for underground disposal of spent nuclear fuel was built in Daejeon. It's called KURT. So I went to visit the research site myself.
